IRONMAN Announces Changes in Coeur d'Alene for 2016

IRONMAN Introduces IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur d'Alene, and IRONMAN Coeur d'Alene moves to August.

IRONMAN today announced that it will continue its long-standing relationship with the city of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho thanks to an agreement that moves the event to late August, while also extending IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene through 2020. This change in date allows for the addition of IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur d’Alene to the North American schedule starting in 2016.

34th Race In the North American IRONMAN 70.3 Series

IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur d’Alene will become the 34th race in the North American IRONMAN 70.3 series. The IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene triathlon will take place on August 21, 2016, with the inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur d’Alene triathlon taking place on June 26, 2016. General registration will open on Monday, June 29 for IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene and Monday, July 6 for IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur d’Alene.

Known for its breathtaking scenery, Coeur d’Alene is a classic resort and vacation destination that features a glacier-fed lake, surrounding forests, the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, the Kroc Center and the beautiful new McEuen Park that provide exciting activities for all ages.

IRONMAN Started in Coeur d'Alene in 2003

One of more than 40 events in the global IRONMAN Series, IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene first took place in 2003 and features a beautiful course that is a staple on the IRONMAN triathlon circuit. IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene athletes begin their day with a two-loop swim in the clear waters of Lake Coeur d’Alene. The change in date to late August allows the water to warm up through the summer months prior to race day. Athletes will continue on a challenging two-loop bike course that leads participants through rural northern Idaho and boasts long sections with no turns where athletes can enjoy the scenic course. The marathon run course, known for its small-town resort atmosphere and spectator support, loops along the shores of the lake finishing in downtown Coeur d’Alene. The single transition area and multiple loop course at the "hot corner" make IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene a favorite among athletes and their friends and families.

Same Course Different Lengths

IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur d’Alene follows the same course as IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene, but with athlete’s completing only one loop of each discipline. This makes IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur d’Alene accessible to a broader audience and allows athletes who are planning to race IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene to prepare for it on the same course.

Things to Consider:

1. Register for the races early as they can sell out quickly.
2. While registering for either race also book your lodging. Coeur d'Alene and the surrounding area are busy during these times of year.
3. Coeur d'Alene Lake can be pretty chilly even in July and August. Arriving early to train in the lake is usually a good idea.
4. Be sure to take some time to explore our community. You won't regret it!

American Country Bed and Breakfast has been a base camp for 50+ IRONMAN athletes and would welcome you for either race! Let us be your home away from home.

When booking 5 nights or more, the last night is just $99.
We will still provide you with all the extra attention your athletic schedule requires:
  • Upon your arrival you will receive a welcome basket filled with items geared toward your participation as an athlete or as an observer.
  • Breakfast will be served at 4:30 a.m. the day of the race.
  • One of our highlights on race day is a carb-laden dinner served late in the evening. Our hungry athletes in the past really enjoyed this feature. After the race is over, most of our athletes return to the B&B ready to shower, nap and eat! We are happy to give them the opportunity to stay here for that evening meal and not have to return to the downtown area.
  • We keep our guest refrigerator stocked with an endless supply of sports drinks, sodas, juices and water.
  • Your special dietary needs will also be addressed during our gourmet breakfast served each morning.
  • Of course, all these extras coupled with our everyday attention to detail will make your stay exemplary.
